April 4th, 2022- Salt Lake City—WECC announced today that it has entered a multi-year agreement with nonprofit MRETS to provide software services for the Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS). M-RETS operates a reputable web-based tracking platform for environmental attributes used by regulatory compliance programs, power generators, utilities, marketers, and qualified reporting entities across North America. This agreement will bring users a modern and up-to-date platform. As part of the new agreement, WREGIS account holders will receive an improved user interface and several functionality upgrades, including:

  •  Increased security capabilities such as multi-factor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on for multiple WREGIS accounts
  •  An application programming interface (API) suite to provide stakeholders with better data access.
  • Continual system improvements to keep pace with the changing environment. “We are excited about the opportunities the M-RETS agreement will offer stakeholders.

Their specialized experience in the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) space, along with their ability to adapt to the evolving software and data needs, made the M-RETS team and platform an easy choice,” said Andrea Coon, Director of WREGIS.

Like WECC, M-RETS is a nonprofit, mission-driven organization that aims to grow renewable energy markets through digital infrastructure. Through this agreement, the M-RETS platform will power more compliance and voluntary markets than any other registry in North America. “We believe that transparency and streamlined access to data will drive greater decarbonization in our economy. WREGIS and M-RETS have a unique shared vision to support REC markets. We are proud to offer a platform to WREGIS account holders that is modern, flexible, and adaptable to our users’ requirements,” said Ben Gerber, President/CEO of M-RETS.

WECC will move to the new platform in the third quarter of 2022. Before the new platform goes live, WREGIS account holders will be offered robust training and preparation opportunities throughout the summer.
